Punjab Launches Suthra Punjab App: Latest Announcement By CM!
On November 29, 2024, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz revealed the initiation of the Solid Waste Management Punjab Suthra project with the goal of achieving cleanliness in the city, mohallas, and overall environment of the province.

As per the CM of Punjab, Maryam’s Suthra Punjab initiative was scheduled to be launched on December 3. During a meeting at the LWMC office, Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique formally inaugurated the program across Punjab on the same day.

The launch date for Suthra Punjab was December 3rd
On Tuesday, Dec 3, 2024, Zeeshan Rafique officially announced the launch of The Punjab Suthra program. This initiative will implement a comprehensive sanitation system in villages and cities, including safe dumping sites in every tehsil and door-to-door waste collection services.
In the 29 November meeting, Maryam Nawaz Sharif brought up the implementation of a zero-waste management mission in Punjab within three months.

110 Out of 149 Tehsils Outsourced: Key Insights and Updates
Additionally, it was mentioned that to operate the program, a goal was established to outsource 149 tehsils in Punjab. Currently, this goal has been met for 110 tehsils in regard to tehsil waste management. To facilitate this process, they have introduced the Online Suthra Punjab App. This application allows individuals to share their feedback and concerns, as well as provides resources for various cleaning procedures.
The purpose of this decision is to optimize sanitation efforts and standardize technical operations. This will ensure that both rural and urban areas have equivalent access to a functioning sanitation system.
In addition, he noted the dedicated efforts of the CEOs, LG Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners in waste management companies to drive this campaign forward. Furthermore, he highlighted the staggering amount of 60,000 tons of waste generated daily in Punjab. Creating 100,000 Job Opportunities with the Suthra Program – A Step Towards Progress

As of now, 88,000 positions have already been filled and the remaining openings will be made available shortly. 83,000 Machines & 25,000 Vehicles to Be Allotted
To successfully manage cleanliness, representatives have approved a total of 21,000 cleaning machines and 83,000 pieces of equipment for use by employees responsible for waste collection and cleaning.
Additionally, the Suthra Punjab management program will benefit from a fleet of approximately 25,000 garbage collection vehicles. This significant resource allocation will undoubtedly streamline and enhance waste collection processes, ensuring the program operates efficiently and effectively.
Trackers will be installed in the vehicles to oversee sanitation and sweeping operations. Additionally, a six-member committee will be established in every tehsil and district to support the monitoring process.
Lahore Targets 1.5 Million Homes in Massive Cleaning Campaign
During the Clean Punjab Program inauguration, Zeeshan Rafique emphasized the coverage of 1.5 million houses in Lahore through the Maryam Nawaz Suthra Punjab Program. This initiative entails door-to-door garbage collection from residents’ homes. Furthermore, it includes promoting cleanliness and providing training for drainage operations in 500 central markets as well as 400 villages across Lahore.
She also mentioned that the daughters of Punjab have a responsibility to keep their homes and surroundings clean. This means avoiding throwing garbage on open roads or outside of houses. We should establish designated dumping sites for the proper disposal of waste.

A total of 540 individuals are set to be employed for sanitation duties in Lahore, while each tehsil will also receive 10 loader rickshaws. The designated workers will be in charge of maintaining cleanliness in public areas, markets, and streets.
According to Maryam Nawaz, maintaining cleanliness is equivalent to half of one’s faith, and those who actively clean should be regarded as honorable individuals rather than insignificant ones.
Rural Areas Now Included in Suthra Program for the First Time
Along with other measures, Zeeshan Rafique has made it a priority for cleanliness to be given equal consideration in villages as well under this program. Unlike many previous initiatives, the Punjab Suthra program, at the direction of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, places equal emphasis on both rural and urban areas.
According to Local Minister Zeeshan Rafique, it is the primary duty of every elected representative to ensure that sweeping and drainage sanitation are carried out with fairness in their respective areas.
AI and Tracking Systems to Implement Strict Monitoring Measures
Additionally, Rafiq Sahib mentioned that there are plans to implement Artificial Intelligence monitoring Systems in all districts and tehsils. This will guarantee proper tracking of waste management and accountability measures.
Finally, he announced that the Chief Minister of Punjab has also introduced the Punjab Suthra app and a dedicated helpline (1139) for public use, allowing them to provide their feedback.
