A Sindh governor calls for a Punjab-style reduction in electricity bills

On Sunday, Kamran Tessori asked Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to declare an energy price relief similar to the Punjab government, fearing a “sense of despair” among the Sindhi people.

Sindh’s CM [Murad Ali Shah] should offer a relief of Rs14 per unit in electricity bills, he said, warning that denying it would leave people feeling hopeless.

Furthermore, Tessori expressed concern over the devastating effects caused by the heavy rains in several areas of Sindh, pointing out that many were left homeless as a result.

MQM Urges Sindh Govt To Provide Punab-like Relief in Bills

According to Farooq Sattar, the Sindh government has not yet taken comparable action, but the Punjab government-led by Maryam Nawaz-has offered its customers a Rs. 14 per unit energy cost relief.

The leader of the MQM-P voiced concerns about the ongoing rise in electricity costs and the ongoing load shedding in Karachi, which he claimed was discriminatory against the people living there. In a recent speech, he criticised the recent increase in Karachi residents’ power prices, pointing out that certain sectors are now paying as much as Rs 50 to Rs 55 per unit.

Price hike for electricity in Karachi: 200-unit consumers exempted for three months

Karachi residents who use up to 200 units of energy monthly are also affected by the increase in energy prices; however, if they were exempt from the increase for the previous three months, they will not be affected.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) granted the federal government’s request to raise base power prices for domestic consumers by Rs7.12 per unit last week.

In conclusion

This appeal aims to ease the financial burden on Sindh’s residents, who are struggling with rising energy costs. It mirrors the relief provided in Punjab. It is expected that the outcome of this appeal will have a significant impact on households across the province.
