The “Bijli Sahulat” package, a three-month power relief plan initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Shari, aims to assist customers during winter when essential utilities are used minimally due to the expensive per-unit rates.

Addressing the audience at a ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of poet Allama Iqbal, he announced, “The government has approved an electricity relief package for the winter months of December, January, and February, to cover any additional power consumption.”
Commercial Consumers to Get Relief: Save Up to Rs22 Per Unit
The premier announced that household consumers will be charged a flat fee of Rs 26.07 per unit for any extra electricity usage. He also mentioned that this would result in savings ranging from Rs 11.42 to Rs 26 per unit for households.
PM Shehbaz shared that there are multiple power user slabs available. He also mentioned that the industrial sector could save anywhere from Rs. 15 to Rs. 5.72 per unit. He expressed hope for the industry to experience growth, ultimately providing more employment opportunities for individuals.
Furthermore, the expenses for commercial consumers would see a decrease from Rs13.46 per unit to Rs22 per unit. According to him, this would result in savings of 34% to 47% on additional electricity consumption and provide companies, factories, and farming with lower electricity rates. Ultimately, this would also aid in boosting exports.
Massive 18-37% Relief for the Thriving Industrial Sector
According to the premier, there is a possibility that the industrial sector could potentially lower electricity rates by anywhere from 18% to 37%.
According to the Power Division’s statement released via X on Thursday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has implemented a decrease of Rs1.28 per unit in power rates, in response to fluctuations in September fuel prices.
Additionally, NEPRA had previously granted permission for a nationwide increase in electricity tariffs by Rs1.743 per unit for the months spanning September to November. The objective of this measure is to generate a total of Rs43.23 billion for the distribution companies that were formerly under WAPDA.
